- All wheel drive, replace on installed manual transmission with bevel
box.
- Front wheel drive with front axle differential lock for the right
flange shaft.
- Front wheel drive with front axle differential lock, on installed
manual transmission with front axle differential lock.

- For bevel box output flange
- Replace only when the bevel box is removed
- Replace for bevel box "0AV".

- Replacing from the side of the seal (-item 7-) on FWD vehicles with
front axle differential lock.
Left Seal, Replacing
Left Seal, Replacing, for Left Flange Shaft
Replacing the seal on the left flange shaft on AWD and FWD vehicles is
identical.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Slide Hammer Set -VW771-
- Slide Hammer Set - Hook -VW771/37-
- Seal Installer - Flange Shaft -3305-
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm -VAG1331-
- Torque Wrench 1332 40-200Nm -VAG1332-
- Drip Tray -VAG1306-
- or Shop Crane - Drip Tray -VAS6208-
- Sealing Grease
- Grease allocation. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
The drive axle must be removed later in the procedure.
- With the vehicle still standing on its wheels, loosen the front collar
bolt -arrow- a maximum of 90º. Otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged.
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
Golf and Golf Wagon
- Remove the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner.
Golf Cabriolet and Scirocco
- Remove the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner or the
left front wheel housing liner.
CC and Passat
- Remove the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner.
Continuation for All
- Remove the left drive axle.
- Place the Drip Tray or Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit -
SMN372500- underneath.
- Remove flange shaft bolt. To do this, install two bolts on the flange
and counterhold the flange shaft with a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft with the pressure spring.
- Remove flange shaft seal.
Installing
- Lightly oil the new gasket on the outer circumference.
- Install the seal all the way in without tilting it.
- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip -Arrow- halfway with
Sealing Grease.
- Install the flange shaft.
- Hold the flange shaft to the transmission and tighten.
- Install the left drive axle.
- Check the transmission fluid level.
Golf and Golf Wagon
- Install the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner.
Golf Cabriolet and Scirocco
- Install the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner or the
left front wheel housing liner.
CC and Passat
- Install the left front wheel housing liner.
Continuation for All
- Install the noise insulation.
Tightening Specification
- Flange shaft (countersunk bolt).
Right Seal, Replacing
Right Seal, Replacing, for Right Flange Shaft, FWD
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Seal Installer - Flange Shaft -3305-
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm -VAG1331-
- Drip Tray -VAG1306-
- or Shop Crane - Drip Tray -VAS6208-
- Sealing Grease
- Grease allocation. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
Removing
The drive axle must be removed later in the procedure.
- With the vehicle still standing on its wheels, loosen the front collar
bolt -arrow- a maximum of 90º. Otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the heat shield above the right drive axle -arrows-, if equipped.
- Remove the right drive axle.
- Place the Drip Tray or Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit -
SMN372500- underneath.
- Remove flange shaft bolt -arrow-. To do this, install two bolts on the
flange and counterhold the flange shaft with a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft with the pressure spring.
- Pry out the sealing ring.
Installing
- Lightly oil the new gasket on the outer circumference.
- Install the seal all the way in without tilting it.
- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip -Arrow- halfway with
Sealing Grease.
- Hold the flange shaft to the transmission and attach.
- Install the right drive axle.
- If removed, install the heat shield over the right drive axle.
- Check the transmission fluid level.
- Install the noise insulation.
Tightening Specification
- Flange shaft (countersunk bolt).
