Front Parking Aid or Parallel Parking Assistance Sensors, Removing and Installing

The front parking aid sensors and the front parallel parking assist sensors are installed in the front bumper cover. Both of the front parallel parking assist sensors sit sideways in the outer locations in the bumper cover and are used with the parking aid sensors for measuring during the parking process.

The following sensors for the front parking aid and the front parallel parking assist are inside the front bumper cover:
  • Left Front Parallel Parking Assistance Sensor -G568-
  • Left Front Parking Aid Sensor -G255-
  • Left Front Center Parking Aid Sensor -G254-
  • Right Front Center Parking Aid Sensor -G253-
  • Right Front Parking Aid Sensor -G252-
  • Right Front Parallel Parking Assistance Sensor -G569-

Note

Removing and installing the front parking aid sensor and the front parallel parking assist sensor is performed in the same manner and the following is described for one sensor.

Removing

  • Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

Caution

Always follow the sequence for removing the sensor.

Otherwise, the sensor may be damaged. Hairline cracks which lead to sensor failure can develop if too much force is used on the sensor.

First remove the sensor from the bracket and then disconnect the connector from the sensor.

  • Remove the front bumper cover.
  • Push the retainers -arrows- on the sensor bracket -1- toward the outside and pull the sensor -2- out of the bracket with the wires still connected.

Note

  • When removing the sensor, make sure that the decoupling ring (black silicone ring) remains on the sensor head and does not remain in the bracket or get lost.
  • Do not bend the decoupling ring.

  • Disconnect the connector -2- and remove the sensor -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Caution

An incorrect or damaged decoupling ring can lead to malfunctions.

Do not bend the decoupling ring.

Replace any damaged decoupling rings and be sure install the correct decoupling ring.

Note

Since the lengths of the sensor heads of the front parking aid sensor and the parallel parking assistance sensors are different, the high decoupling rings installed are also different.

  • Make sure the correct decoupling ring is installed on the sensor head.

Volswagen Tiguan. N94-11088

Type of Sensor Height of Decoupling Ring -B-
Front Parking Aid Sensor 5.7 mm
Parallel Parking Assistance Sensor 9.05 mm
  • Replace the sensor decoupling ring -1- if necessary.

Note

  • When installing the sensor, make sure the decoupling ring is correctly mounted on the sensor head and that it does not fall off or roll up when being inserted into the sensor bracket.
  • Both retaining tabs of the sensor bracket must audibly engage when installing the sensor.

  • Make sure the sensor is seated correctly in the bracket after installation. The gap between the sensor head and the bumper cover -a-, visible from the outside of the bumper, must be even all the way around.
