Volkswagen Tiguan Service and Repair Manual: Rear Window Wiper System

Wiper Arm, Removing and Installing

Removing

  • Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.
  • Fold up the cap -1- on the rear window wiper and unclip it.
  • Release the mounting nut -arrow- without completely unscrewing it.
  • Fold wiper arm up and loosen from the cone by sideways motions.
  • Remove the nut -arrow- and the wiper arm.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

  • Turn on the ignition then turn on the rear window wiper and turn it off again. The wiper arm will move into the park position.
  • Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.
  • Mount the wiper arm on the wiper arm shaft in the approximate park position and tighten the nut -arrow- hand-tight.

Note

Only tighten the wiper arm mounting nut -arrow- to the specification after adjusting the park position.

  • Adjust the rear window wiper park position.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm -VAG1331-

Removing

  • Remove the lower rear lid trim panel.
  • Disconnect the connector -3-.
  • Turn the clip on the hose connection -1- to unlock it.
  • Pull the hose -1- off the Rear Window Wiper Motor -V12--2-.
  • Remove the nuts -arrows-.
  • Remove the Rear Window Wiper Motor -V12--2- from the rear lid.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

  • Make sure the seal fits correctly in the rear window opening. Marking -1- of seal must align with marking -2- on rear window.
  • Tighten all threaded connections to the tightening specifications given in the assembly overview.

Rear Window Wiper Blade Park Position, Adjusting

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm -VAG1331-

The distance -a- between the middle of the wiper blade insert and the lower edge of the window must be 23 mm.

  • If necessary, adjust the windshield wiper blade end position by repositioning the wiper arm.
  • Tighten all threaded connections to the tightening specifications given in the assembly overview.

Joint-Free Wiper Blade

Joint-Free Wiper Blade, Removing and Installing

Removing

Note

The joint-free wiper blade is very flexible. Hold the wiper blade only in the area near the wiper blade retainer in order to remove it from the rear window.

  • Fold the wiper arm up.
  • Push the cap -1- in the direction of -arrow- to unlock it.

  • Remove the wiper blade -1- from the wiper arm -arrow-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.
