Volkswagen Tiguan Service and Repair Manual: Speaker Systems
General Information
Note
- In conjunction with "RCD 300" radio, the front sound system consists of
a 3-way system with one bass speaker, one mid-range and one treble speaker
respectively in left and right front doors. In vehicle rear, an optional
2-way system with one bass speaker and one treble speaker respectively can
be installed in each door.
- With the "RNS 510", front and rear speakers are always installed.
- Front and rear speakers are always installed in conjunction with "RCD
500" radio system.
- All speakers are passive speakers.
Front Bass Speaker, Removing and Installing
Removing
Note
Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
To replace a speaker, the door trim must be removed first.
- Release locking mechanism of harness connector
-arrows- and disconnect it.
- Drill (<4.5 mm) out the rivets -arrows- and
remove the speaker.
Note
- To prevent corrosion, be sure to remove all metal shavings from inside
the door.
- If paint on door frame is damaged during drilling, touch-up immediately.
Installing
- When installing, secure new speaker with special pop rivets (note
replacement part number!)
Install in reverse order of removal.
Rear Bass Speaker, 4-Door, Removing and Installing
Removing
Note
Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
To replace a speaker, the door trim must be removed first.
- Release locking mechanism of harness connector
-arrows- and disconnect it.
- Drill out the rivets -arrows- and remove
the speaker.
Note
- To prevent corrosion, be sure remove all metal shavings from inside the
door.
- If paint on door frame is damaged during drilling, touch-up immediately.
Installing
- When installing, secure new speaker with special pop rivets (note
replacement part number!)
Install in reverse order of removal.
Rear Bass Speaker, 2-Door, Removing and Installing
Removing
Note
Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
Remove the side trim panel first and then replace the speaker.
Note
When removing side trim, treble speaker may break away from trim due to a
short wire connector from wire mount to speaker connector
-arrows-. Therefore, carefully remove side trim.
- Disconnect connector at treble speaker and then remove side trim.
- Release locking mechanism of harness connector
-arrows- and disconnect it.
- Drill out the rivets -arrows- and remove
the speaker.
Note
- To prevent corrosion, ensure that all metal particles from drilling are
removed from inside the side panel.
- If paint on door frame is damaged during drilling, touch-up immediately.
Installing
- When installing, secure new speaker with special pop rivets (note
replacement part number!)
Install in reverse order of removal.
Front Midrange Speaker, Removing and Installing
Removing
Note
- Mid-range speakers are secured to door trim from behind.
- Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
To replace a speaker, the door trim must be removed first.
- Release locking mechanism of harness connector
-arrows- and disconnect it.
- Remove the screws from the speaker and remove the speaker.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Front Treble Speaker, Removing and Installing
Removing
Note
- Treble speaker is installed in mirror triangle at each front door.
- Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
To replace a speaker, the door trim must be removed first.
- Disconnect harness connector in wire to speaker
-arrows-.
- Remove the screw -arrow-.
- Unclip trim together with speaker.
- If the plastic clip -arrow- remains on the
trim after removing, then remove it and insert it in door at the
installation location designed for it.
Otherwise trim of mirror triangle can no longer be installed correctly.
Speaker can only be replaced in conjunction with trim of mirror triangle.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Rear Treble Speaker, Removing and Installing, 2-Door Vehicles
Removing
Note
- Removing and installing on the left and right sides is identical.
- After removing treble speaker, speaker trim must always be replaced.
- Treble speakers are secured to side trim from behind.
Do the following before starting the procedure:
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
Remove the side trim panel first and then replace the speaker.
Note
When removing side trim, treble speaker may break away from trim due to a
short wire connector from wire mount to speaker connector
-arrows-. Therefore, carefully remove side trim.
- Disconnect connector at treble speaker and then remove side trim.
Installing
- Insert speaker trim in door trim.
- Place speaker on speaker trim plastic clips.
- Heat-seal the plastic clips using a soldering iron
-arrows-.
Install in reverse order of removal.
